Ran Akiyoshi
His real name was Terukuni Akiyoshi. He was born in 1922 in Seoul, under the former Japanese Empire. After the war, he created covers and illustrations for numerous adult magazines. At the same time, he devoted himself to creating unique fantasy paintings, which Tatsuhiko Shibusawa praised as "single-mindedly weaving his own dreams." Despite demand, he never sold a single one of his paintings. He died in 1981. The following year, he held his first solo exhibition as a posthumous exhibition at Aoki Gallery in Ginza.
