Atsushi Tani "Flowers and Nudes"

In the dark, in the fetish, in the avant-garde

――A collection of shivering works by an atypical photographer

``Flowers and Nudes'' and ``D.P Collage Series'' will be released simultaneously!

Nudes and flowers are cloaked in translucent tranquility.

The latest photo collection filled with the "now" of the solitary artist who continues to evolve!

A4 size deluxe edition!

There is something about Atsushi Tani that makes me think of Hosai Ozaki and Santoka Taneda, who left this world as if they were drowning in nature without conforming to a conventional life or work.

If Tani, like Hosai and Santoka, continues to “journey” with her own obsessions and continues to evolve, one day we will see amazing and beautiful creations that cannot be thought of as being of this world. I think it might be possible.

I believe that "Flowers and Nudes" is a valuable record that points to a point in Atsushi Tani's creative journey.

--Taro Mishima (Producer)

Many of the nudes captured here are seen through vinyl or veils, and in addition to being shot with multiple exposures, it is impressive that the sense of presence is diminished.

Doesn't it look like a ghost?

And it can be said that the flower series is the most direct expression of the desire for Thanatos of the Valley.

That moment when the shadow of death begins to creep in—in other words, there is the moment when you start leaning toward the other world, with your feet on both this world and the other world, and that moment is the supreme beauty. When there is, the photograph of the valley appeals.

Both the nude photos and the flower photos in this collection are invitations from the valley to the realm of Thanatos, simple and therefore skillful.

● Atsushi Tani

Photographer and visual artist.

He started making photographs around 1989, and his photographic works with a dark and gothic taste were published in magazines such as "BURST", "DUNE", "Yasou", and "Talking Heads Series", and gained popularity.

In 2008, he received an offer from Mylène Farmer, an artist who is very popular in the French-speaking world, to shoot the jacket and booklet for the album "Point de Suture".

Currently, in addition to Japan, he is active mainly in exhibitions in Asia and Europe. He is also involved in the visual production of books and CD jackets, as well as promotional photography for plays, stage performances and musicals.

Tani's works are characterized by surrealist visuals that are reconstructed with his own sensibility and interpretation, using objects such as nudes and other human bodies, flowers, lenses, surgical instruments, curtains, and veils. From aesthetic works inspired by literary works to experimental works with radical collage, his works are wide-ranging and continue to surprise the viewer.
