▼ Makiko Sugawa

Painter and illustrator.

She graduated from Kyoto Junior College of Art and Design.

While continuing to present her works at national and international exhibitions, she also creates illustrations and covers for foreign magazines. Overseas, she has exhibited her works in Portland, Florida, Paris, etc., including a solo exhibition at a gallery in Rome. She herself has her prosthetic leg, and she is in charge of costume design and participates as a model for her prosthetic leg fashion show. She was in charge of the overall mural production of the JR Nanbu Station building. She collaborated for the first time with this work and drew all of her works.

In recent years, she has participated in many group exhibitions, including solo exhibition 2019 “Youkami” (Vanilla Gallery) and 2020 “Turbulence” (Space Yui).

Her collections of works include "Lady Amputee in Powder Room" (Edition Treville), "melting" (Atelier Third), "Lace Queen", and the picture book "Knee and Meme" (Advertising Circle).

Since her debut with her movie screenplay, she has expanded her light novels and novels.

In her current novel, which is her main axis, she makes full use of typography and photography, and also works on book design to create a story world that appeals to the sense of sight. She is also notable for developing her writing expression, and has developed artwork such as presenting objects and photo collage works at publication commemorative exhibitions. In her reading performances of her own work, she not only reads, but also plans and directs, collaborating with various musicians and artists. She was also involved in the selection of five painters for the Dark Fairy Tale Picture Book Series.
